Family Faith Formation Activities to Do All Year Long

Your child gets a much-needed break from school every summer. During this time, they may not be as focused on matters of faith as they are when it’s part of the daily routine. It’s easy to get distracted by worldly things when you finally have the time to take a mental break. If you make faith into a family project, it can draw their attention back to what matters. Try some of these fun faith-based activities this summer:

Experience Nature

Nature is something it’s easy to take for granted. The outside world has always been there, and we assume it always will be. One way to help your child form their faith this summer is by showing them how incredible nature can be. Find an area — like a local park, river, or forest —  where you can take in God’s creation as a family. If you’re up for it, exploring nature is an excuse for a family road trip. Going out into the natural world can help your child connect with God’s calling for us to be good stewards and also of God’s provision.

Show Love Through Crafts

As a parent, you likely have a home full of crafting materials. Put these to good use by finding a local organization, like a shelter or a nursing home, that may benefit from your child’s creativity. They may be looking for purely creative items like homemade cards or supply kits with a creative touch. Either way, your child’s touch can make someone else’s day that much better. Crafting can get your child familiar with Biblical concepts like servanthood and giving freely.

Volunteer Together

Your family can show and experience God’s love together by volunteering. By committing an afternoon to sorting cans or cleaning up a beach, you and your family can do something purely to help other people. While you’re there, you’ll meet other selfless people who dedicate their time to making the world a better place. It’s a great way to help the community while bonding as a family. It also helps give your child a modern idea of how Jesus would’ve served his community, as well as how the Early Church served those around them.

Do Some Biblical Summer Reading

Chances are, your child has a list of recommended books to read over the summer. Why not add the Bible to that list? Find a summer Bible reading plan that goes over important stories that you can read as a family and discuss. Think of it as a summer book club for your children. This can help your child build their faith during their break from school.

At our Polk private schools, we foster an atmosphere of care and an environment of high expectations and effective discipline. We allow students to explore their faith at school and encourage them to do the same at home. To learn more about what makes us different, contact us online.
