Keeping Your Child Busy at Home

Coronavirus closures have been putting pressure on parents trying to figure out how to keep their child busy. From fingerpainting to video games, you thought you’ve tried it all. But he’s still got a lot of energy in him! Our schools understand what it’s like trying to keep students busy, so here are some ideas we recommend.

Plan Ahead
Your child is accustomed to a well-thought-out routine while at school, so it’s crucial this is applied at home as well. Create a daily schedule together, and hang it up as a calendar. Set aside blocks of time for each school subject, as well as breaks, naptime, outdoor play, and more.

Homeschooling Resources
The pressures of homeschooling may make you feel like you’re alone in all this, but that is far from the truth! Everyone is going through the same experience right, and experts are sharing their strategies on the web. The internet has a wide variety of home-learning resources, such as Scholastic’s Learn from Home program.

Snack and Game Bins
Throughout the day, your child is hungry for snacks and stimulation. Rather than addressing those needs every so often, you can teach your child independence and discipline by creating boxes. Label each bin with your child’s name, then place snacks in one and games in another. That way, he can handle grabbing items himself, while you can focus on what you need to do!

Work Together
Now that your child is home all the time, this gives you the opportunity to bond. Teach him how to bake, give him a job to do like taking out the garbage, or start a garden together. Your child watches you in hopes to be like you, so letting him help you makes him feel closer to you.

Get Online
The internet has countless educational activities and entertainment, that will keep your child occupied for a long time. Take your little scientist on a virtual field trip to the National STEM Academy at the Museum of Aviation. Visit a museum like the Guggenheim and explore the art like you would in person. Say hello to the pandas at the Atlanta Zoo. Experience Hotel LEGOLAND right from your couch. Whatever you choose, there will be plenty of other trips to take to keep your children entertained!
